ISIS's failure to attack Karbala

The attack by elements of the ISIS terrorist group on the west of Karbala on Sunday morning failed with the timely action of the forces of the Iraqi 2nd Al-Abbas Combat Brigade.

NOURNEWS - The brigade's command said in a statement that the unit's forces, along with the 3rd Armored Brigade, repulsed an attack by ISIS elements on Sunday morning (May 3, 2020) with heavy artillery to capture the al-Nakhib area.

The attack took place on the Ramadi Desert, and the terrorists fled with a swift and decisive response from Al-Abbas Brigades.

The command of the second brigade of Al-Abbas (AS) has emphasized that the forces of this unit are at the peak of readiness and authority, and any terrorist group that intends to approach the holy city of Karbala will face a devastating response.

Meanwhile, an attack by ISIS terrorist elements on a police station in the eastern province of Diyala left at least four people dead and five wounded late Saturday.

An Iraqi intelligence official said on Saturday night that four people had been killed and five wounded in an attack by the Islamic State terrorist group on a police checkpoint in the eastern province of Diyala.

Earlier, media sources reported that one policeman was killed and three others were injured in the attack.

The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a police checkpoint in the village of Zaghniyeh, near the al-Abara area, 15 kilometers from Baquba, the capital of Diyala province.

Meanwhile, the Al-Hashd al-Shabi organization's media office said that ISIS terrorists attacked the "Paul Al-Muftul" area east of the city of Amerli on Saturday evening after the Maghrib call, most of whose residents are Shiite Turkmen, with an immediate response. The forces of the 52nd Brigade of the People's Mobilization failed and the ISIS elements fled, leaving casualties.

The ISIS terrorist group also launched a surprise attack on al-Hashdal al-Shaabi forces in the Makishifah and Balad areas of northern and southern Samarra on Friday night, prompting a backlash.

According to the Al-Hashd al-Shabi organization, 11 people were killed and 20 others were wounded in the ISIS terrorist attack, most of them martyrs and wounded from the al-Hashd al-Shabi forces.

Following this crime, the Iraqi security authorities launched a large-scale security operation this morning to pursue and suppress ISIS terrorist elements in the region.

The Iraqi Joint Military Command also said it had obtained important security information about ISIS remnants in the area during a search and rescue operation. The southeastern regions of Salah al-Din province are hidden in ISIS's hideouts due to the rugged nature and vast low and high areas along with the security vacuum.

In recent weeks, attacks by the ISIS terrorist group have increased, especially in different areas, especially in the rugged areas between Kirkuk, Salah al-Din and Diyala provinces, known as the "death triangle".

The increase in attacks has prompted al-Hashdal al-Shaabi forces and the Iraqi army, backed by fighter jets, to launch operations to target ISIS hideouts in the country's eastern and northern provinces.

The activities of the hidden nuclei of the ISIS terrorist group in Iraq have intensified in recent months due to the political problems caused by the formation of the new government, as well as the crisis of the "corona virus" in this country.

Al-Hashd al-Shabi, Iraq's intelligence chief, said on Sunday that ISIS terrorists had been equipped with advanced equipment in yesterday's attack, adding that ISIS had entered Iraq from Syria with US assistance.

The United States has been training, equipping, and providing intelligence support to terrorists in the eastern part of Syria for the past five years.
