Nournews: Years of humanitarian disasters in Gaza—thousands killed and massive destruction—have triggered waves of civil, cultural, and academic boycotts. At least three major moves in cinema, music, and academia have recently shaken the Zionist regime.
Cinema
Over 4,000 international artists and filmmakers, including Oscar winners, pledged through Cinema Workers for Palestine to cut ties with Israeli institutions involved in “genocide and apartheid.” Festivals such as Jerusalem, Haifa, and Docaviv, as well as Israeli TV networks, were named as complicit. This recalls the 1987 Filmmakers United Against Apartheid campaign against South Africa.
Music
The Netherlands, Ireland, and Spain warned they would withdraw from Eurovision 2026 if Israel participates. Ireland’s broadcaster called Israel’s presence “unacceptable,” while Dutch and Spanish officials stressed that genocide cannot be normalized. Slovenia and even last year’s Austrian winner have voiced similar positions.
Academia
Universities worldwide are suspending cooperation with Israeli institutions. Brazil’s Federal University of Ceará canceled a joint forum, Trinity College Dublin and the University of Amsterdam froze exchanges, and the European Association of Social Anthropologists ended collaboration. Activists stress that Israeli universities are complicit in occupation and genocide.
Global Message
Though cinema, music, and academia differ, they share one message: the global conscience has awakened. Silence in the face of genocide is no longer acceptable, and each act of boycott becomes part of a global narrative of justice and humanity.
