Nournews: Only one week remains until International Design Day 2025 (IDD2025)—a worldwide event that this year embraces a bold and unique theme: “Outlandish Optimism.” This theme aims to counter the dark and discouraging narratives surrounding global crises, encouraging designers to imagine the future with creativity, courage, and positivity.
The theme was developed by the Association of Graphic Designers in Poland (STGU), and the main poster was designed by Olena Turdokhlib, a Ukrainian graphic designer and illustrator. With her unique perspective, she turned the concept into a visual story filled with imagination, boldness, and visual beauty.
The goals of this year’s theme are:
To challenge fear-driven and crisis-focused narratives.
To question negative assumptions within society.
To offer innovative, hopeful, and inspiring design solutions.
To highlight the role of design as a tool to reshape reality and imagine better worlds.
How can you take part?
Everyone—artists, designers, and visual communicators—can join this global movement by creating posters, graphic projects, digital artworks, or launching creative campaigns on social media. Just use the hashtags:
#IDD2025 and #OutlandishOptimism
You can also participate in both in-person and online events organized by international bodies like ico-D or STGU.
