Abadan, a port and island city in southern Iran, is situated between the Arvand and Bahmanshir rivers. It has been inhabited since the Elamite period (around 4000 years ago). The city held a special significance during the Sasanian era and, with the establishment of a refinery in 1912, it became the heart of Iran's oil industry. During the Sacred Defense (Iran-Iraq War), it endured a siege for thirteen months; however, through the resilience of its people and fighters, the siege was broken in the Operation Samen-ol-A'emeh (Operation Eight Imam). Abadan boasts numerous tourist attractions, among which the most notable include:
The beautiful beaches of the Arvand and Bahmanshir rivers
Historic mosques and churches
Pilgrimage site of Prophet Khidr
Abadan Museum
Cinema Naft
With its blend of history, industry, and culture, Abadan is considered a valuable destination for tourists.
