U.S. behavior will determine if negotiations can move forward: President

President Masoud Pezeshkian says Iran has responded to a recent letter from U.S. President Donald Trump through Omani mediators, emphasizing that the path of negotiations will depend on Washington’s behavior.

Pezeshkian said on Sunday that Iran has never shied away from negotiations, and it is only the broken promises by the other side that have damaged trust, which must be restored.

“While the response rules out the possibility of direct talks between the two sides, it says that the path for indirect negotiations remains open,” the president said during a cabinet meeting.

“It’s the behavior of the Americans that will determine the continuation of the negotiation process,” he said.

Trump sent a letter to Iran via an emissary from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on March 12. While the content of the letter has not been made public, Trump said he asked Iran to open negotiations to make a new deal and warned of possible military action if Tehran refused.

The U.S. president pulled the United States from a previous agreement with Iran in 2018.

Iran has ruled out direct negotiations with the US under pressure and threats.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Pezeshkian said the catastrophic crimes of the Israeli regime must be stopped, adding that dropping bombs on innocent civilians despite a ceasefire deal is unacceptable.

He called on Muslim nations to stand united against Israel.
