Eslami: Without fuel cycle, nuclear knowledge is useless

NOURNEWS – The Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Mohammad Eslami, at the inauguration of the 7th Conference on Measurement and Safety of Ionizing and Non-Ionizing Radiation, stated, "If we do not have a fuel cycle, we cannot claim to be a country with nuclear knowledge and technology."

Eslami commemorated the memory of nuclear martyrs, including martyr Ahmadi Roshan and martyr Ali Mohammadi. He stated, "Considering that 50 years have passed since the establishment of the AEOI, and we are in the 49th year of the establishment of radiation protection, the association, and the Iran Nuclear Regulatory Authority, we realize that we still have a long way to go."

He emphasized, "In the past 50 years, Iran has always been kept in scientific isolation due to its capacities, talents, and scientific and technological potentials, preventing it from entering the field of modern science and technology. Since the Islamic Revolution, there has been immense pressure on Iran to prevent our country from ever requesting to enter the nuclear fuel cycle. However, if we do not have a fuel cycle, we cannot claim to be a country with nuclear knowledge and technology."

He said, "In these years, extensive negotiations took place, and it was announced that Iran should not enter the fuel cycle but should work collaboratively. In the early years, Iranian-French companies were formed, and the Pahlavi regime paid one billion dollars at the time so that Iran could participate in the nuclear industry and pursue its goals through this. But after receiving the money, they made excuses and claimed that Iran is a non-European country, intending to deprive Iran of this technology through such rhetoric and leadership. After the victory of the Islamic Revolution, it was announced that this was an ambitious endeavor, and the pursuit of nuclear technology and energy should be stopped. However, the Islamic Republic of Iran chose the path of developing nuclear technology in the country with authority."

Eslami said, "Despite more than 25 years of negotiations, numerous accusations have been made against Iran. Governments of all ideologies and political orientations have negotiated in this regard, and the outcome of all these negotiations led to the adoption of the JCPOA document, which is within the framework of UN Security Council Resolution 2231. The result of the negotiations was that the accused issues would end with inspections, and sanctions would be lifted. The Islamic Republic of Iran also acted in accordance with the JCPOA treaty for a specified period to build trust and close this case. But even this was not tolerated, and with the Zionist currents, Trump withdrew from this treaty."

He continued, Iran has the capacity to achieve 20,000 megawatts of nuclear power, and in this regard, we have a law. Also, the Leader of Islamic Revolution Seyyed Ali Khamenei has repeatedly emphasized in these years that we must move towards the development of atomic power plants and increase nuclear power generation.

He added that The ISIS Institute also recently published a report stating that Iran's determination indicates that it has acquired the technology and is acting as a nuclear power plant constructor; the global community should not allow Iran to gain the ability to build such power plants. If this process continues and Iran achieves such capability, it will transfer this technology to countries opposing us.

He emphasized, “The intention of Western countries is that they do not want us to pursue such capabilities.”

Eslami stressed, "In AEOI, the nuclear industry, and the structural and processual capacity have been created, and in line with it, we will also expand the human and managerial capacity; to implement an active, effective, and professional flow in the national economy and the country's prosperity.”

He added, "In this period of AEOI, we were able to develop radiation applications and radiation-generating systems in the health and food sectors, and we will bring these achievements to the people.”

According to Tasnim News Agency, he emphasized, talented forces, interested youth, and professors can seize our numerous opportunities to achieve our goals, and “we believe that universities, scientific and research associations can play a significant role in this path.”

He concluded, "Regarding human resource recruitment and with the aim of employing students in fields related to nuclear technology, we have granted scholarships to a number of them, and we will continue this process because we believe that knowledge-based forces can also contribute to the country's scientific and nuclear development.”
