Occupation up to Tripoli; now is it Damascus's turn?!

NOURNEWS – Western media, by presenting the scenarios of "Afghanization" and "Libyanization" of Syria, attempt to justify their interventions; however, these claims serve as a façade for the bitter realities rooted in Western interventions and hegemonic policies.

Developments in Syria continue to be at the center of global attention, but what unfolds behind this global focus is a diminishing concentration on issues such as Palestine and the occupation by the Zionist regime. In this context, Western media are trying to justify their interventions by introducing the two scenarios of "Afghanization" and "Libyanization" of Syria; yet, these claims cover up harsh truths that stem from Western interventions and imperialistic policies.

Afghanistan: Two decades of occupation, two decades of devastation

In 2001, the United States occupied Afghanistan under the pretext of responding to the September 11 attacks, claiming to bring stability and prosperity to the people of this country. However, two decades of NATO presence and the expenditure of over two trillion dollars resulted only in the expansion of poverty, increased drug production, ethnic conflicts, and the destruction of social infrastructure. In 2021, the United States left Afghanistan overnight, leaving behind a legacy of humanitarian crises, corruption, and displacement.

The disaster at Kabul Airport symbolized the irresponsibility of the West, where instead of confronting terrorists, an Afghan family with ten casualties became victims of US airstrikes. These realities indicate that what has brought Afghanistan to its current state is not internal factors, but rather twenty years of occupation and Western crimes.

Libya: Intervention to destroy unity

In 2011, the West launched an all-out war against Libya under the banner of supporting the Libyan people. The outcome of this intervention was the collapse of national unity and the emergence of a fragmented Libya, with each part under the control of colonial powers. NATO not only destroyed Libya’s infrastructure but also created a fertile ground for terrorist groups to operate. Today, Libya, which once played a significant role in the Arab world and the African Union, has become an unstable and disjointed country.

Cloaking occupation with a savior narrative

Western media attempt to attribute the fate of Afghanistan and Libya to the internal conditions of these countries, such as tribal structures or underdevelopment. However, the reality is that the main factor behind the crises has been direct Western intervention. The same policies are now being pursued in Syria.

Repeating the narratives of Afghanistan and Libya in Syria is merely a tool to justify military presence and impose a puppet government in Syria. By concealing their role in the destruction of these countries, the West has placed the Syrian people between two devastating options: "Afghanization" or "Libyanization."

Focusing on national capacities; the only way forward

The experiences of Afghanistan, Libya, and other occupied countries show that Western intervention not only fails to solve problems but leads to destruction and annihilation. In contrast, paying attention to national capacities and acting based on the will of the majority represents a genuine solution to counter Western hegemony, paving the way for the salvation of nations. History has demonstrated that foreign intervention, no matter how beautifully packaged and seemingly democratic, ultimately leads to destruction, poverty, and division.

The Syrian people's negligence towards preserving unity and independence will lead them to a fate no different from the repeated tragedies of Afghanistan and Libya.
