Int’l confab on nuclear energy utilization kicks off in Samarkand

The international conference on prospects of nuclear energy utilization for peaceful purposes kicked off in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.


Nournews: The International Conference on Prospects of Nuclear Energy Utilization for Peaceful Purposes in the sustainable development of member countries of the Islamic Cooperation Organization kicked off in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
An Iranian delegation headed by the deputy of Iran’s Nuclear Energy Organization and the chief of Iran’s Nuclear Safety System Center attended the event.
Mohammad Reza Kardan delivered a speech at the event and presented Iran’s statement.

Significant advances of Iran’s nuclear technology during the past 5 decades
The international conference has been organized into 4 specialized panels. Kardan took part in the 1st specialized panel. Pointing to the fifth anniversary of the establishment of Iran’s Atomic Energy Agency, Kardan said that the Islamic Republic of Iran has made significant progress in the field of nuclear science and technology, from the nuclear fuel cycle to life-saving radiomedicines, during the past 5 decades. He noted that these achievements have been realized despite illegal and unilateral heavy sanctions.

He added that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always emphasized its commitment to the utilization of peaceful nuclear technology and has supported boosting collaboration among member states for sharing knowledge, expertise, and best practices.

The deputy of Iran’s Atomic Energy Agency also said that nuclear technology must be a key instrument in our collective response to global challenges. “Our objective is to achieve sustainable development and a promising future in advancing nuclear science and technology.”

“We can use the nuclear potential to elevate our nation and serve humanity. Iran calls for the formation of a technical and educational nuclear collaboration network through engagement and mutual synergy.”

Impact of nuclear energy on sustainable development of clean energies
Rafael Grossi, the director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, is also present at the event. Addressing the attendees, Grossi said that peaceful nuclear energy has a very big role in the sustainable advancement of clean energies.

“The nuclear technology advancement process started years ago, and now new countries are trying to enter the field.”

Pointing to the high interest of nations in this issue, Grossi said that given the current international conditions where tensions are on the rise, further tensions must be prevented.”

Grossi said that peaceful nuclear energy has an effective role in the development of clean energies.

Iran nuclear envoy meets with Uzbekistan’s head of Atomic Energy Agency
On the sidelines of the Samarkand conference, Kardan met with Uzbekistan’s head of the Atomic Energy Agency.

Referring to common historical and old friendly ties between Iran and Uzbekistan, Azim Akhmedkhadjaev  announced Uzbekistan’s readiness for the advancement of an all-out relationship with Iran.

Meanwhile, Kardan referred to the historical friendship of the people of both countries and, while pointing to the nuclear capabilities of Iran, invited the head of Uzbekistan’s Atomic Energy Agency to Iran to become more familiar with the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program.

The conference has been organized into 4 specialized panels and reviews the role of international organizations, particularly the IAEA, in supporting the utilization of peaceful nuclear energy and ensuring the safety of nuclear facilities with regard to complying with global standards and requirements; the social and environmental aspects of using peaceful nuclear energy in the member countries of the Islamic Cooperation Organization to achieve sustainable development; the introduction and development of nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes, and so on.
