On Monday, Tel Aviv approved a ban on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), which will take effect in three months. The ban halts all contact between UNRWA and Israeli authorities, restricting the agency’s delivery of critical support to the Palestinians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
Responding to the decision, Baghaei took to X on Wednesday, condemning Israel's move.
Highlighting the war crimes of Israel in Gaza, Baghaei said “the occupying regime is now planning to bar #UNRWA from operating in occupied Palestine after it has already killed more than 230 of its staff.”
“This is outrageous & cruel and extremely consequential as UNRWA is irreplaceable and essential without which the humanitarian system in #Gaza will collapse,” Baghaei emphasized, stressing the agency’s vital role.
He also quoted UN Special Rapporteur on Palestine, saying, "genocidal intent, contextualizing the situation within a decades-long process of territorial expansion and ethnic cleansing aimed at liquidating the Palestinian presence in #Palestine."
Baghaei reiterated the need for swift global action. “The world must act decisively to stop the regime from uprooting the 75-year-old agency and to prevent deprivation of Palestinian refugees of their minimum basic rights.”
