Iran appoints first female auditor general

Iran has appointed Neda Alae as its first female auditor general.

Alaei was appointed by Ahmadreza Dastgheib, president of the Supreme Audit Court of Iran (SAC), and received her official decree from Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf on Sunday.

Alaei will serve as the auditor general in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, tasked with overseeing the country's public budget spending.

The Supreme Audit Court operates independently under the supervision of the Iranian Parliament, providing assurance on the government's financial management.

Last year, Fatemeh Faghanikhani became the first woman to serve as a consultant to the Supreme Audit Court.
