NOURNEWS: The next six days in Iran are very sensitive for the country’s power industry. A 7.5 percent increase in electricity consumption compared to the same period last year, coupled with a significant rise in temperature, has created hardships for Iranians.
All electricity plants are working at full capacity to meet the needs of the people. However, the next six days have been described as being very critical.
The crisis headquarters has ordered the closure of government offices in various provinces to lower the burden on the electricity network and prevent power cuts.
Sadeq Rezaeian, the head of the national weather forecast at the country’s Meteorological Organization, said that “Iran’s temperature is rising at twice the pace of the global temperature.” He added that the global temperature has increased by more than one degree compared to the long-term average, while Iran has become warmer by 2 degrees over the past 50 years.
He predicted that the weather in Tehran will reach 40 degrees Celsius next week and will remain at that level through the end of the week.
Tehran, with a population of more than 14 million, hit a record electricity consumption on May 12 with 5600 megawatts of electricity used.
