Eslami: Issuing a resolution will be met with Iran's reaction

While Trioka’s activities to put more political pressure on Iran began last week and continued yesterday with the presentation of a draft resolution to the Board of Council, Mohammad Eslami, the head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Agency, has said that “our criteria are the law of strategic action of the Parliament for the removal of sanctions and we will react definitely in case a resolution is issued or political pressure is exerted.

NOURNEWS: The meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board of Council was launched yesterday in Vienna with the participation of 35 representatives of member states. According to a report witnessed by reporters, three European countries, namely Britain, France, and Germany, have presented a draft resolution to the Board of Governors, requesting an increased level of collaboration between Iran and the agency.

The document that was reportedly sent to the secretariat of the IAEA last night asks Tehran “to take immediate and urgent measures” to address safeguard claims.

Meanwhile, it has been said that the document will be voted on in the next few days at the meeting of the Board of Governors.

On the issue, the head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Agency has stated that the council meeting is held every three months and that the director-general of the agency is obliged to report on the performance of Resolution 2231, which is the text of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, every three months to the Board of Governors and every six months to the United Nations Security Council.

Eslami added that the agency is based in Iran and conducts investigations, according to which the regulations of our job are underway and have never stopped and will never be stopped.

On the issue of the JCPOA, there have been parties, including the US, that had certain obligations but breached them, Eslami said, noting that the US exited the JCPOA and not only failed to fulfill its obligations but also prevented others from cooperating with Iran. “According to Article 36 of the JCPOA, we are entitled to reduce our obligations if the other parties do not fulfill their obligations, and our criteria are the strategic law of the parliament for removing sanctions.”

“We act within the framework of national law, safeguards, and the NPT. They report contradictories because they failed to fulfill their obligations. It is vital for them to resume their obligations so that we can fulfill ours. If they issue resolutions or exert political pressure, we will react for sure.”

Yesterday, Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, also reiterated his political claims about our country's nuclear program at the first day's session of the Board of Governors.

Grossi's political claims were made under circumstances where Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency agreed in February 2023 to resolve all outstanding issues between the two parties.

The recent moves of three European countries, England, France, and Germany, in presenting a draft resolution against Iran, have been accompanied by opposition from the United States. Washington believes that, given Iran's response to its approach and political claims, the Agency's overly demanding and unilateral stance, the non-approval of the potential resolution would be considered a significant diplomatic victory for Iran.
