NOURNEWS: While Iranian citizens, particularly those residing inside the country, are reported to rarely use Tik-Tok, the statistics released by the online social network show that content related to Iran is very popular and becomes viral. From July 2022 until now, more than 1.4 million videos with #Iran have been released by the platform and viewed more than 19 billion times in total.
According to the latest figures, protests formed after the death of the late Mahsa Amini in August 2022, which led to unrest in the autumn of the same year, was one of those periods when the most content about Iran was produced, released, and reshared via Tik-Tok.
The other period of time when content about Iran culminated on Tik-Tok, to an extent that videos with #Iran were viewed more than 666 million times, coincided with the latest Iran-Israel tensions that ended in Iran’s massive missile and drone attacks against Israeli stances.
It is interesting to note that the most content with #Iran has been produced in the US, UK, Germany, Pakistan, and Canada. This is while Tik-Tok has a limited number of audiences inside Iran. So the data are being released in the absence of Iranians.
