NOURNEWS: Iran’s support for Kurds, whether during Saddam Hussein's attacks on Halabja or ISIS attacks, demonstrates that Iran has always been a significant supporter of Kurds and a friend during difficult times for Iraq and Kurdistan, said President Ebrahim Raisi in a meeting with the head of the Kurdistan Region.
We expect the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Region to absolutely prevent any misuse of their soil by Zionist enemy agents and anti-revolutionary forces against Iran, the president added.
The president noted that total disarmament and the absence of anti-revolutionary forces on Iraq’s soil are necessary.
He emphasized that Iran sees no obstacles to expanding economic and trade ties with the Kurdistan Region.
“We see the long joint borders as a valuable opportunity to improve the level of ties. However, security is the vital ground and foundation for every collaboration and expansion of interactions.”
He noted that “We must not let the enemy’s agents and malicious parties disrupt the path of collaboration between the two parties.”
Nechirvan Barzani, the President of the Kurdistan Region, said that the foundation of Iraq is new, and the ties between the two parties are the result of Iran-Iraq blessed ties, so Iran is not just a neighbor to us.
“If the Islamic Revolution and the Islamic Republic were absent, the destination of today’s Kurdish movement would be unclear. Showing respect for these collaborations and interactions is our red line that we will never cross.”
The borders between Iran and Iraqi Kurdistan have never been closed, even during the Covid pandemic. We expect Iran to stand with us to help remove problems in Iraq and build a developed and prosperous country.
Our past ties are a source of honor, and we are striving to create a brighter future, he noted. Barzani concluded that no sound mind would allow us to prefer ties with a regime that is in its worst situation over ties with our strong and friendly neighbor.
