Endangered, rare Iranian Yellow deer born in Lorestan

Now, a deer calf has been born to the released deer, which is healthy and stable, reports have said.

NOURNEWS: Following the release of eight heads of Iranian Yellow deer in the Zagros Mountain Range in Lorestan province, another calf was born in the wild, said the general director of the Department of Environment in Lorestan province.

Ali Salarvand explained that the eight heads of Yellow deer were transferred to Lorestan from two reproduction sites, including Dasht-e Naz in Mazandaran province, in the past couple of years in line with the program aiming to revive and preserve the Iranian yellow deer.

According to Salarvand, the animals were released in the Zagros Mountains, which were the original habitat of the species in the past, and now a calf has been born to the released deer, which is healthy and stable.

“The baby deer and its mother are under the supervision of the site’s authorities and the relevant vet, and are being kept in good condition suitable for reproduction and the growth of the calves,” said Salarvand.

Salarvand added that last year a Yellow deer was born in the protected site as well, which is in good health, indicating that the new site has been successful in the revival of valuable and at-risk species.

Currently, the Iranian Yellow deer is living in several provinces. While attempts are being made to save this valuable species, the hope to revive them in their original habitat, Lorestan province, has been doubled in the past couple of years.

The Iranian Yellow deer is being kept in the protected and reproduction Industrial and Cultivation center of Fajr-e Safa of Lorestan province in the slopes of Zagros, which is the first and largest private center of reproduction of Yellow deer in the country.

The center has been established with the aim of safeguarding the country’s endangered species and their genetic reservoir.
