Iran, Turkmenistan foreign ministers emphasize advancing bilateral relations

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, who is on a visit to Turkmenistan, met with his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredov, on Thursday afternoon, in the final agenda of his two-day trip to the neighboring country.

In a joint meeting of the foreign ministers of Iran and Turkmenistan held this afternoon in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, both sides expressed satisfaction with the progressing relations between the two countries and emphasized the continuation of expert delegations' negotiations to follow up on agreements.

Amir-Abdollahian expressed gratitude for the warm reception by the officials of Turkmenistan.

Referring to a separate meeting earlier today with the Turkmenistan National Leader and the President, which lasted 4 hours, he said: "The agreements reached in the areas of transit health cooperation, transportation, as well as joint measures to address regional water tensions, promise bright prospects for bilateral relations."

Our Foreign Minister highlighted: "Various proposals were discussed in this meeting regarding increased cooperation in border, consular, economic, and technological sectors, and a framework for following up on agreements was established."

Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister, Rashid Meredov, also expressed satisfaction during the meeting, welcoming the high-ranking Iranian delegation in Turkmenistan and the constructive meetings at the highest level. He expressed hope that with the intensified efforts of the specialized agencies of both Iran and Turkmenistan, the relations between the two brotherly and neighboring countries will continue to flourish.

Our country's foreign minister, this morning, also discussed topics of both countries in the political, economic, and cultural fields with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the National Leader and Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan, and Turkmenistan's President, Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

Bilateral relations between Iran and Turkmenistan in various political, economic, and cultural areas are in favorable conditions, and the two countries have growing cooperation in energy, gas, electricity, water, transit, and trade.
