Iran FM meets Turkmenistan's national leader and president

NOURNEWS – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, on an official visit to Ashgabat, Turkmenistan's capital, held meetings with Turkmenistan's National Leader and Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, as reported by Nournews reporter.

During his first scheduled event of the trip, Amir-Abdollahian discussed bilateral issues, regional and international developments with Berdimuhamedov.

Amir-Abdollahian and his delegation also met with Turkmenistan's President, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, moments before. The meeting focused on the implementation process of agreements between high-ranking officials of both countries and ways to expedite the execution of agreements from both sides.

Later in the afternoon, as part of the planned itinerary for his visit to Ashgabat, the Iranian Foreign Minister will meet and hold discussions with his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredov.

Iran and Turkmenistan have favorable bilateral relations in various political, economic, and cultural fields, particularly in energy, gas, electricity, water, and commercial transactions. Turkmenistan serves as a gateway for Iran to Central Asia, while Iran provides Turkmenistan access to international waters and surrounding countries. Thus, railway, road, and transit cooperation play a significant role in Tehran-Ashgabat relations.

Turkmenistan is an important market for Iranian exports of goods and technical and engineering services, with several large-scale projects such as silo construction, water and electricity installations, sewage systems, and road construction undertaken by Iranian companies in Turkmenistan.
