First foreign trip in the new year
According to the Nournews reporter, this marks Amir-Abdollahian's first foreign trip in the new year.
The agenda of this trip, extended by the official invitation of Turkmen authorities, includes the expansion of bilateral relations, especially following up on agreements between the leaders of both countries, as well as exchanging views on regional and international issues.
During this trip, besides political negotiations, officials from both countries are expected to discuss and exchange views on expanding bilateral economic, commercial, transit, technical and engineering services, cultural, and political relations.
Regional issues such as developments in Gaza, Afghanistan, and South Asia may also be on the agenda of discussions between Iran's foreign minister and Turkmen officials.
During a visit in June 2023, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the National Leader and Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan, signed five agreements with Iran in various fields including transit and international corridors, gas, electricity, trade, and investment between the two countries.
The comprehensive development of relations with neighboring countries is one of the key strategies of the Iranian government in the field of foreign policy, thus upgrading the level of relations and deepening political, economic, and cultural cooperation with Turkmenistan is among the priorities of the diplomatic apparatus of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
