What were Macron and Von der leyen looking for in Beijing?
Considering the existing facts and the collapsed situation of Europe during the Ukraine war and the unreliability of American promises, the main and real goal of Macron and Von der Leyen can be assessed to enjoy the revival of economic relations with China.
NOURNEWS - French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had a two-day trip to China, at the head of a large trade and economic delegation.
The two mentioned using of Chinese mediation to end the war in Ukraine as one of the reasons for their trip to China, as Macron said, I hope that China can bring Putin to his senses.
Von der Leyen also spoke about Xi Jinping's readiness to talk with Ukrainian President Zelensky.
This seemingly peaceful claim has been made by these European officials while a look at the developments of the Ukrainian war in recent days and the composition of the European delegation present in Beijing reveals the truth behind these claims and gestures.
The composition of the European delegation present in Beijing included a set of officials and large economic companies that had the development of economic relations with Beijing on the agenda, and considering the approaches of sanctions against China in recent months, it indicated the failure of sanctions against Beijing.
The war in Ukraine with a wide wave of inflation and a crisis in the food and energy sector challenged the claim of the superiority of the Western economy, and Washington, in addition to emptying Europe's pockets to buy weapons, also sold food and energy to Europe at many times the real price.
All of these developments brought a wave of strikes and protests in the streets of Europe, including France, which were of course accompanied by severe police repression.
In just 13 months, however, China has achieved significant economic growth on the world stage.
Considering these facts and the collapsed state of Europe and the more obvious unreliability of American promises, the main and real goal of Macron and von der Leyen can be assessed to enjoy the revival of economic relations with China.
On the other hand; The kind of practical behavior of the West in recent days is not consistent with the claim of pacifism and efforts to end the war.
The announcement of Finland's official membership in NATO, Zelensky's visit to Poland and the country's emphasis on increasing the sending of fighters to Kyiv, the action of the United States in sending more weapons to Ukraine, the positions of "Joseph Burrell" and "Olaf Schultz", the chancellor of Germany next to "Rishi Sunak" ", the Prime Minister of England and Macron, who have officially emphasized the increase in sending weapons and military aid to Kyiv with the slogan "Putin must not win" and... are examples of these behaviors.
The sum of these behaviors, as well as the greedy view of people like Macron, who called China's mediation not to end the war based on the interests of the parties involved, but to bring Putin to his senses, shows that the word pacifism has turned into a verbal gesture without practical support for European countries.
Not mentioning NATO's role in the created tension and ignoring China's 12-point plan is proof of the lack of rationality and political maturity among Western leaders to reach a political solution.
This issue was clearly evident in China's reaction to Macron and Von der Leyen's requests, as Xi, in his meeting with Macron, once again discussed the changes and new order in the international scene, which is a kind of expression of the end of Western unilateralism, and the repetition of the clauses of the 12-point plan proposed at the time of his trip to Moscow.
